Our very first ONIGIRI special. Because it is made in our own workshop it went from first sketch to actual shirt in just 3 days. An extremely limited run of just 22 shirts. “Beating for it” designed by Xiao wei Li.

I came up with this design while wondering why the heart icon is so different from a real heart. The shape is almost completely different, so I wished to consolidate these two forms.

The original design was going to be in 3D (still going to do that, I’m positive that would look awesome), but the first 2D sketch worked so well it became a shirt instead.

In Plum with gold print for women and Red and burgundy for men. We also made a custom one with gold print on a dark blue shirt on request for a customer.

Now available in-store and on our webshop: http://www.onigiri.nl/webshop/catalogsearch/result/?q=beating

Sugar and spice and guns and knifes

Loliraptor® started out as an experiment on the side. I wanted to try a new way of creating line-art in Illustrator. I wanted to play around with fonts and different languages. I wanted to create an illustration with my favorite contrast: attraction and repulsion.

The character that popped into my head was kind of a reaction to the ‘Lolita’ phenomenon, the fascination with super-cute little girls. Instead of sweet and innocent my character had to be scary and dangerous. So I started out with one of the loveliest things I could think of: a little girl in bikini. Then I merged it with one of the most frightening things I could think of: a velociraptor.

The illustration had to be simple and easily recognizable so I chose for a cartoony, pictographical style. The name of the character became a mix of ‘Lolita’ and ‘Velociraptor’: Loliraptor® . For the Loliraptor® logo I chose a font that looked modern and poppy. The use of pink was pretty much obligatory, and the choice for the colour green was also pretty obvious.

I placed some early versions on the internet and people liked the design. I was still toying around with the details when Xiao wei from Onigiri asked me if I could work it out as a T-shirt design. We chose to put it on a women’s T-shirt for all those tough girls out there who want the world to know that they are more than ‘Sugar and spice and all things nice’.

Check out the glas door of my fitting room. It changes from transparant to frosted when you press the big red button. I’m pretty confident in saying I’ve probably got the coolest fitting room in the country. ^^

Holy Snaps! the wall painting took a lot of work. Took almost 3 full days to finish the back wall. Still need to do the side walls but there are a lot less lines there. Special thanks to my dad for helping me out. I’ll upload a timelapse video later.

“Working hard or hardly working guys?” Har har har… no, I didn’t actually say that. I’d have to commit seppuku to wash off the shame.

The walls are progressing nicely, but I got news that the facade is delayed…. AGAIN! ugh, it feels like I have to go on a mad shuffle every other day to change all the **** plans. Anyways if there’s not another disaster it looks like I can open maybe 18th of June.

First T-shirt design! This one’s going out to production as a first test-run. I call it: “Cultivated Creativity”, the idea is that all kinds of stuff is growing from one’s mind. hence the brains as roots.
The print is the same style as the wall decal I’m going to paint on the walls in the store. Usually I wouldn’t make the merchandise Look similar to the store style, however I thought it was cool enough to stand by itself. Will be available in men and women models and 4 colors total

The reverse side of the plastic bag. The other side has folding instructions. I plan to make a series of this, but for my first order of plastic bags it will be these two. Again these are parodies of the Tokyo metro manner posters
