I came across this packaging design concept from a student named Aaron Mickelson. The idea is that for certain types of products the “packaging” can be directly printed on the surface while also being able to wash it off once you start using it.
I think it’s a great idea as for reducing not only waste, but also reducing an extra step in the process. Instead of printing it on a piece of paper or plastic and then adding it to the product this can be done during the production of the product.
Of course there are some caveats. First of all, It’s only viable for certain products. Some items still need a container around it for example for loose parts. Also the ink has to be carefully selected. It must be bio-degradeable or at least non-toxic and easily filterable from the water supply.
But all-in-all I think it’s great idea.

I was bored with the standard boxes we have for sending parcels from our webshop. So I’m adding graphics to every-one of them. Currently there are 20 different variants and more coming.
